An ecosystem of technologies, which Kelly referred to as the "technium," could be thought of as a kind of super organism that is an extension of the evolutionary process, he explained. Gardner used the phrase "the virtual Cambrian" (during the Cambrian era life evolved from simple cells to more complex creatures) to describe our new era in which we are "birthing a new kind of kingdom of life," with our technology. Kelly described future advances-- people won't carry separate devices like cell phones, but will interact with technology embedded in the environment that recognizes you and displays your preferred interface. In the next 10 years, he sees the Internet evolving to become less static, and in transportation, automatic driving will begin to be adopted. Google is already experimenting with self-driving cars, using video cameras, GPS, and various sensors. As machines and robots become more autonomous, there may be dangers associated with their ability to self-replicate, or how they are incorporated into the military, Gardner pointed out. ]]> Nano Technology Nanotechnology, sometimes shortened to nanotech, refers to a field of applied science whose theme is the control of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally nanotechnology deals with structures 100 nanometers or smaller, and involves developing materials or devices within that size. Nanotechnology is an extremely diverse and multidisciplinary field, ranging from novel extensions of conventional device physics, to completely new approaches based upon molecular self-assembly, to developing new materials with dimensions on the nanoscale, or the scale of nothing, even to speculation on whether we can directly control matter on the atomic scale. There has been much debate on the future implications of nanotechnology. Nanotechnology has the potential to create many new materials and devices with wide-ranging applications, such as in medicine, electronics, and energy production. On the other hand, nanotechnology raises many of the same issues as with any introduction of new technology, including concerns about the toxicity and environmental impact of nanomaterials, and their potential effects on global economics, as well as speculation about various doomsday scenarios. These concerns have lead to a debate among advocacy groups and governments on whether special regulation of nanotechnology is warranted.

This description can be found on their site, via the link above. How does it work? If you have a background in the industry you know the above pictures are impossible. A computer cant have unlimited power and it cant process unlimited point cloud data because every time you process a point it must take up some processor time. But I assure you, it's real and it all works. Unlimited Details method is very different to any 3D method that has been invented so far. The three current systems used in 3D graphics are Ray tracing polygons and point cloud/voxels, they all have strengths and weaknesses. Polygons runs fast but has poor geometry, Ray-trace and voxels have perfect geometry but run very slowly. Unlimited Detail is a fourth system, which is more like a search algorithm than a 3D engine. It is best explained like this: if you had a word document and you went to the SEARCH tool and typed in a word like MONEY the search tool quickly searches for every place that word appeared in the document. Google and Yahoo are also search engines that go looking for things very quickly. Unlimited Detail is basically a point cloud search algorithm. Researchers at the University of Texas have for the first time used an invisibility cloak to make a three-dimensional object.
