Aug 20, 2011 - check lightworks it will become open source but still make money by SELLING PLUGINS , yes if lets say in blender 3d i make a plugin or anything for it I CAN SELL IT because its open source i contribute in the way i want to . Lightworks just sucks :D

Jul 29, 2011 - .. If oneday RED provided support for open source tools, then maybe I'll try... but for now I'm sticking with Adobe but not because of PP.

Jul 29, 2011 - It's not correct that "professional" is defined simply from a monetary perspective. That actually couldn't be further from the truth. Professional also refers to certain quality standards and techniques used. In regards to video editing then for most "professional" users it's actually necessary to use commercial product to even start the creative process and this is especially true in regards to most DSLR file types and up. Try editing RED files in Openshot why don't ya..
kawaiiultraneo Says:
Jul 28, 2011 - A "professional" by the way is someone able to earn an income from their ability, skills or passion. They don't have to use commercially available software inorder to achieve their goal(s). At the end of the day it doesn't matter which platform someone chooses, so long as their goals are met.
Latvian4ever Says:
Jul 28, 2011 - WE don`t need monopoly - adobe will just dominate and thats the loss for every one. no competition, no good software.
SquirrelFromGradLife Says:
Jul 27, 2011 - So telling the semi professional or professional video editors that they have to take a step backwards in capabilities in regards to ability to scrub through and edit all native DSLR files, instant playback and the powerful parallel GPU processing rendering makes no sense. It might make sense in regards to Final Cut Pro but that's just because it blows and the news X version just sucks balls simply because you CAN'T open old FCP projects. Whats up with that?
SquirrelFromGradLife Says:
Jul 27, 2011 - I am all for open source and am in fact writing this from a Chrome browser on a Lubuntu pc. I use the open source editors like OpenShot and kdenlive but you can not deny the powerful Adobe product line and their integration. Everything they talk about in the video already exist in Premiere Pro and it works. Apples Final Cut Pro was so far behind in development and were completely useless in regards to native DSLR files, playback and rendering and the new X just sucks balls.
SquirrelFromGradLife Says:
Jul 27, 2011 - In the end its about productivity and capability.. You're talking about profit margin and then you forget that Novacut is open source and therefor virtually impossible to make money of a free open source project unless some giant corporation decides to buy the venture. Regarding productivity, Novacut needs to match the immensely powerful Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5 Mercury playback engine and the ability to seamlessly scrub through any DSLR/AVCHD and sadly they dont.
farter1255 Says:
Jul 26, 2011 - Your guys' hands are huge.
kawaiiultraneo Says:
Jul 26, 2011 - Wait.. but why give Adobe a bigger profit margin? Aint they making enough money already? Why not give someone else a chance?
SquirrelFromGradLife Says:
Jul 25, 2011 - You do know that everything you're talking about you can do right now in Adobe Premiere Pro. Right. Their meta data tools are really powerful and they even have script to story board work flow.. Because you're Apple people you basically know fuck all about the technology and pay three times for your hardware compared to pc products and you can run OSX on pc. Final Cut Pro is so out dated by Adobe for years now and just the fact that Premiere Pro needs no file conversion says everything..
SquirrelFromGradLife Says:
Jul 25, 2011 - I like to correct Arin on the Open Source thing.. While is it correct that most Open Source software are really tied into the community and reflects the wishes and desires and there are some very recent examples of major open source projects that simply derails because they get to big to fast. The recent Ubuntu redesign of their user interface to the Unity layout is such an example. Its just horrible and I have not heard of anybody that's exited for its introduction..

curtiscourt9092 Says:
Jul 20, 2011 - Why did you shoot this video? Seems like a real waste of resources and bandwidth. You offered nothing visually. It's radio on video. Make it a podcast next time. "Um" is a drinking game. I have a decent buzz on now.
radravendotcom Says:
Jul 20, 2011 - Sounds a hell lot like FCPX + Cloud enabled... ;( We need a true alternative, not more of the same!
MartinMunthe Says:
Jul 17, 2011 - Ys. But you are still spending resources developing it. Resources you should probably spend trying to figure out how to bring GPGPU to a Linux video editing system. And an intermediate (like ProRes or Cineform) for editing GOP streams like h.264 that was never ever intended to edit on a time line. Even if marketing hype from Apple and others tries to fool us into believing it's a good idea to edit video streams that doesn't actually contain any frames to to cut.
MartinMunthe Says:
Jul 17, 2011 - What's the point in supporting Meta Data from a still image camera that also happens to record video wrapped in a QT container that uses a distribution codec. Don't get me wrong. It's cool to use DSLR's to shoot video - but the cameras available from Canon is in no way developed for video production and I think it's a strange idea to support still image meta data in a video editor.
akshatj42 Says:
Jul 16, 2011 - Novacut is not cloud based but rather cloud enabled, the cloud part is completely optional.
