May 22, 2012 - What I don't understand is why smartphones aren't being sold/distributed with this setting to "OFF" as the default factory setting? That would be WAY safer, since so many people don't mess with those settings.
Nic0daemus Says:
May 17, 2012 - I wonder how many people are shocked by this... then go onto Facebook and tag their location.
JKamrar Says:
May 17, 2012 - My God, I HATE American media! For all hackers didn't know about this, we can thank the media networks for making them aware. If "crime experts" aren't even aware of this it's obviously not a major threat...yet. The news need to learn how, what, and when to report on stuff like this, and when to just keep their F'n mouths shut. Even with this possible threat, very few if any smartphone users will stop uploading pictures.
Dogmom86 Says:
May 15, 2012 - People upload these photos of their kids all the time, and they have no idea of the dangers. This is a good, practical warning for them. If it saves one person, it's worth it.
bluzelovr Says:
May 15, 2012 - I call them "Dumbphones", I wont get one, dont need one! Got a plan old simple cell phone, got a separate camera, and a separate computer, thats the way to go.

May 11, 2012 - I'm sorry but who doesn't know what location services do?! seriously. This is no help, it's patronizing, stupid and blowing the issue way out of proportion, also, schools and parents tell their kids these things anyway, so most normal people know this. so there is no need to bow it out of proportion.
M3T4L8D Says:
May 11, 2012 - Hello criminals...here's a new way for you to find your victims, most of you don't know but this is what you can do... Jesus. who thought this was a good idea?! do they think people who upload pictures are stupid? it's the same with your laptop as well, and anything that has GPS compatibility, most people know how to avoid this...their acting like it only just suddenly popped into existence.

Arithmancer2 Says:
May 9, 2012 - I already knew. My friends already know. It's NOT that hard to find out ANYONES address, phone number, school, etc. It's NOT hard at all.
NINJ4JU4N Says:
May 4, 2012 - Yeah! I mean, we'd be much safer if everyone was ignorant and no one knew to turn off location services, right? Oh, wait. Nope. We'd be less safe. How about not griping at the people who are helping solve the problem?
makegood1000 Says:

tendonut Says:
May 2, 2012 - I didn't know this wasn't known by everyone. This is hardly something new. Metadata has been embedded in pictures for years, and as soon as cell network triangulation and GPS receivers started popping up in digital cameras and smartphones, that has been added to the metadata as well.

Apr 25, 2012 - ok so you can see kids and also where they live. i can do that without a smart phone. big deal.
fivecentfather Says:
Apr 24, 2012 - I refuse to live my life in fear of all the supposed pervs that are supposedly out there hunting for my kids. The odds of predator action are so astronomically low. I looked it up, the odds of getting stuck by lightning are better than for child abductions. I don't give a care who knows where my kids go to school, or what park we visit every day. This is just fear-mongering at it's worst. Live your life and love it. My life, and my kids, are in God's hands anyway.
