Certainly it's a matter of individual taste (in itself an element of uncertainty, individual taste>impossible to factor in perfectly>a sliver of hope?). So failure, I'm heartened. Best example, the results of "improving" an already appealing little boy: the features eerily transformed, appearing somehow cold, even vaguely alien.
