Mar 12, 2012 - You bring up a good point, and you're right, I do organize my AutoCAD file to make life easier in 3ds Max. This is definitely worth looking into (making a tutorial about this issue). I'll put it on my to-do list. Thanks, good suggestion.

Mar 10, 2012 - Hello, thank you for the videos, I wanted to ask, how did you export this 2d plan from autocad? It is also very well organised in layers, do you do it in autocad 3D, or is it possible to be done in 2D? When I save the autocad drafted file, I convert them in polylines, and then when I import it in 3ds max, it just comes in as one big spline mess. It would be great if you could share a tutorial for this, I believe this is very common, thank you again for your time and these informative videos!

3dsMaxHowTos Says:

Feb 29, 2012 - In this particular case (for this tutorial), I created them myself in AutoCAD.

TheOnlyJenk Says:

Feb 27, 2012 - Do you create the blueprints yourself or are there templates?

vicobbb Says:

Dec 1, 2011 - i cant see it in render either

vicobbb Says:

Dec 1, 2011 - I can create a window, but its black in places, and something seems to be wrong with the the graphic. could be related to directX. I have the same problem with stairs. when i create a stair it's just a 2d plane, with lots of graphic distortion... But the funny thing is, that it's only when i import Cad drawings, that there seem to be a problem.. Im running 2010 edition 64 bit. on Windows 7 with ATI Radeon 5650 Hd. graphic card and im using Directx9. i rly have no clue on what to do

3dsMaxHowTos Says:

Nov 30, 2011 - oh wow, that's a new one to me... you mean you can create your windows, you can see them in the viewport but they don't render?..

vicobbb Says:

Nov 30, 2011 - Hi. When I create windows there seem the be some kind of graphic problem? The doors are beautiful. But my windows seems to fail, and can't be viewed in render.. Any suggestion? please help. thanks

3dsMaxHowTos Says:

Aug 31, 2011 - These "blueprints" are in effect splines coming from AutoCAD, so they're really pieces of 2D geometry that have vertices and segments, so yes, you can snap to them. As for the wall object not creating an opening, this usually happens if you are not snapping properly to the wall. Sometimes, it happens even when you are doing everything correctly. Try creating the door or window in the opposite direction. It sometimes helps.

Geoxile Says:

Aug 31, 2011 - Are the vertices you are using as the snap to already laid out on the blueprint? Because those walls can't possibly have vertices where you placed the doors and windows. Also, in my case the doors and windows do not create openings in the walls, so it's literally opening a door to find a brick wall.

Obsession225 Says:

Aug 5, 2011 - Hello. What AEC means exactly? What`s the abreviation?

3dsMaxHowTos Says:

Aug 2, 2011 - that certainly sounds like a glitch. Yes, you could rebuild the geometry but sometimes, it's just as easy to delete the wall and build a new one (and then recreate the window).

3dsMaxHowTos Says:

Aug 1, 2011 - I'm using snap tools to align with the plan layout vertices. It's explained at 0:41s through the movie.

GiIex Says:

Jul 31, 2011 - Can you explain me how did you do so the walls align automatically to those blue dots on the floor? I did every step (except the CAD Blueprint) but I have to manually align the wall. Thanks in advance.

2xXNIMXx2 Says:

Jun 30, 2011 - Is there anyway to rebuild the geometry cause i decided to move my window down and there's a hole where it was. or do i half to remake the window :/

Yashamaru Says:

Jun 22, 2011 - why sometimes the door make de gap in the wall and sometimes it doesnt

3dsMaxHowTos Says:

Jun 20, 2011 - your door parameters may be off or maybe your scene units are out of whack. Are you using the same scene as the tutorial or your own? Try to reset 3ds Max and create a door in a blank scene, see if that works better.

Yashamaru Says:

Jun 19, 2011 - hello, when i create a door it makes something that looks like a box and not like a door of this tutorial

3dsMaxHowTos Says:

May 2, 2011 - @levayala You need to use your snap tools. Right-click the 3D Snap button on the main toolbar and set your snap mode to Edge/Segment only. Then you can use the door creation process as shown in the movie and constrain it to the wall edges. Cheers.

levayala Says:

May 2, 2011 - hello, i'm trying to make the door on angle wall but the door only create on straight line. thanks for your help

samuelmq Says:

Mar 24, 2011 - omg i thought that you must did all the work with edit poly tools, didn't know that creating walls was that easy, what a time saver. Very helpful
