May 23, 2012 - If you're serious about the theremin, you'll want at least, a theremin with both volume, and pitch antennas. The least expensive of this class is about a couple hundred dollars, and are known as the B3 Deluxe. Check my channel for a link to Burns Theremins.

overdriven77 Says:

May 23, 2012 - how much is the cheapest one?

ThomasGrillo Says:

May 23, 2012 - Indeed. We, in the theremin community are endeavouring to establish the theremin's place in musical circles as a viable, and enjoyable instrument of musicality, rather than just a "noise-toy" as hollywood has unfortunately made it out to be in movies of the 40s and 50s.

May 12, 2012 - oh man now i want a theremin

ThomasGrillo Says:

May 10, 2012 - Hi! :) Congrats on the B3 theremin. Yeh, some mic stands have non-removable stops just below the thread. These don't work too well with B3s. You'll want a mic stand that has the removable stop which a star shape washer that stops the microphone threading too far down the thread, or allows the user to lock the microphone in place. Remove this, and your theremin will slip on and be fully seated. In some cases, you might also need a bit of tape round the stand if there is still a little wobbling.

May 10, 2012 - hey tom I've got my b3 theremin now and am loving it. Finding it incredibly hard to do scales and get the first note, but can play it for the songs i need to right now. I can't use my normal mic stand to hold it up tho :s. Was wandering if you knew why?

May 8, 2012 - It's electronic. Tone's produced by 2 beat frequency oscilators which by them selves produce an inaudible 250kHz (250,000 beats / sec). Combined, and with one being variable, and just a few beats / sec off, they make an audible tone within the range of a piano (20Hz - 8kHz). Variable BFO is controlled by a capacitence feild surrounding vertical rod which lets player control notes moving hands to / from rod. Volume is controlled same way. see thereminworld on web for more detailed info. :)
