Sep 5, 2011 - Can anyone tell me, if I waned to learn how to build devices of this type in general, what kind of books or online video should I be looking for. That is, what is the name of the field that deals with this? I know BASIC programing, but I don't know how to build devices and I would like to. Thanks in advance.

Aug 11, 2011 - you need a Multiplexer-circuit which makes it possible to display the data on all digits of the display (lcds flash on and off really quickly due to the multiplexing) and a display-encoder which takes the data and turns on the relavent LEDs.... The LCD display is the easy bit, I want to know how to make a GPS from basic ICs. Although I don't mind trying to work out how myself.
