But seeing that you are from Island, your lack of understanding might be related to something else: Americans use the Dot as a decimal point, whereas in a lot of other cultures / languages the Comma is used instead. So 1.618 does not translate to one thousand, sixhundert and eigtheen, but rather one point six-one-eight.
